To a known problem or adapting a solution to what is within a known physical range then physics is a good choice. However to predicting an outcome to an experiment based on assumptions and the least understood of all the physics it becomes guesswork. Take the Nobel prize winning economists with the perfect formula for stock market futures trading. The mathematical formula was very impressive and yet in practice it required millions upon millions of dollars bailout from the banks in the real world.

There is no diploma, degree or even certificate for alternate theory. To disagree with the scientists at CERN is an alternate point of view. The closest to an alternate degree is theological. Take the part where it says people will suffer great scorpion stings in the last days.

What mechanism could do that? Well how about millions upon millions of growing micro black holes. For many years they would be way to small to take in more than a few particles. But when in proximity to each other would repel violently. A charged micro black hole of considerable mass at pre exponential expansion stage would do extreme charge damage to any living or other tissue it passed through.

The last days are of pain and burning. Electrocution or flash burn by being in the path of a micro black hole ejection sounds quite Biblical to me. The damage to electrical and communications equipment would place the world in a new dark age. Science does not even go close to proving everything. My advice … Do not disregard The Bible.

No, ALL humans are utterly dependent on our past science, data, and discovery for their everyday survival. Not only that, but if we wish to be the first species to survive the earths regular mass extinction events, it is absolutely essential for science to progress and our understanding of the natural world to greatly increase.

“The meaning of life is survival and reproduction. Look at every bacterium, flower and bird.”
That’s quite a philosophy. In that case, I’m not sure what you’re worried about, as a black hole survives and multiplies far better than even bacteria.

This article’s scientific underpinnings are as substantive as its translation; ridiculous and illogical. The issue of black hole creation has been at the heart of every misguided and miseducated debate confronting sub-atomic particle accelerators/colliders since the inception of such testing apparatus. By all means, review the 2003 article posted on the CERN website for more information regarding such inquiries. This article, and specifically this scientist, assumes that no such theoretical physics work was conducted in light of such a powerful instrument. I implore you to seek other sources of empirical evidence. Please, research the equations he is using to arrive at his conclusions. Evaluate his models. Review the responses of his peer-reviewed work, if his work has in fact been peer-reviewed. All of this will much more effectively lead you to your opinion on the matter, rather than this horribly butchered and unreadable translation of an interview. Shame on the publishers for having published such misleading tripe in light of what is legitimately the most public of concerns.

JTankers it has been a privilege to follow you on the forums and news comments areas even CERN scientists know you are against them and name your name. Your scientific background is a clear indication that science and scientists do work for humanity and value life.

Thanks to the many that have tried to raise public awareness. I hope the people realize that September 10 2008 is only a show run and not in any way an indication of what the machine may be able to do.

If we lose the legal and political battle then it is mother natures turn to determine the outcome. CERN may be using poor judgment in apparently rejecting safety mitigation procedures, but scientists are our allies they are not our enemies.

If we lose battle of the minds then CERN will win the right to experiment and we should accept that turn of events.

I’m not interested in the science or possible discoveries. This experiment is wrong and evil. Most humans get along fine without science, data and discovery. These scientists have no right to threaten mankind and our beautiful planet with mass destruction and oblivion. The meaning of life is survival and reproduction. Look at every bacterium, flower and bird.
Earth is our amazing one and only home for all time. We need to protect it and live sustainably not threaten it with mass destruction.
Scientists, multi nationals and capital should not hold a loaded gun to everybody and every creatures head! If the law courts won’t protect us we need to march on the facility!

Please improve the translation. If you want to convey any scientific arguments the English needs to make sense.
One of the initial sentences goes like this:
“[...] professor Otto E. Rossler sees a danger for the earth, whose fall he can introduce in the LHC however. Golem.de spoke with Rossler at the edge of the Transmediale, which carry the title “Conspire” in this year.”
I doubt this is close to the German it was translated from and I’m afraid the rest of this translation is no better.

The scientists involved in the LHC experiment have admitted to not knowing what the results will be - whether they will find the Higgs bosons that they are looking for.

Correct me if I’m wrong - RESULTS is only half the synonym of the word OUTCOME. The other half is CONSEQUENCES.

If they are unsure of the results, how can they claim anything regarding consequences.

The truth is– they don’t know what the OUTCOME will be - the results and CONSEQUENCES.

The truth is - scientific experiments can and have gone wrong in the past. That is why we use guinea pigs.

But in the LHC experiment the guinea pig is not a lab mouse. It’s the planet Earth.

Claiming that they can “control” it is beyond comprehension to me - when they DON’T KNOW THE OUTCOME.

They say the ODDS are like winning the lotto. Well every week a lotto winner (sometimes “winners”) are announced.

World War I and World War II evidenced the human race’s capacity in slipping into the rabbit hole of collective madness.

There may be no World War III, but the LHC experiment will do.

Remember lone and persecuted Galileo against ALL the other scientists/astronomers?

For me, a truly intelligent scientist is one in a million. All the others for all their “brilliance” are just monkeys who like to poke at things and see what happens.
